High speed technology

Fast programme execution, flexible memory expansion and programmability like S7 from Siemens - these are the key features of the new hard PLC introduced here.

The Speed7 CPUs introduced here have been planned above all with regard to their speed. They are programmable with STEP7 from Siemens and instruction compatible to S7-300 and S7-400 from Siemens. Very fast processing and cycle times of about 50.000 instructions per ms are considerably accelerating output of machinery and plants.

Via S7300 Standard-Bus-System and due to the convenient design, Vipa and Siemens modules can be operated in the same applications.

Expansions and Interfaces

For the connection of peripherals there are two options: commonly on the right side at the standard backplane bus at which I/O modules as well as communication processors and function modules are operated.
The Speed-Bus on the left hand side of the CPU permits the user to operate additional special highspeed peripheral modules. For this Bus, digital inputs/outputs, analogue inputs, Profibus-Master, Interbus-Master as wed as CANopen-Master are available.

With the integrated Master for Profibus-DP, the Ethernet-Interface and the MP2l-connection all common interfaces are supported within one system. Profibus Master is available as integrated Fieldbus Interface in the CPU. Additionally an MP2I interface with 12Mbit/s is included which besides standard MPI communication to PG allows point-to-point connection via Green Cable. Furthermore the CPUs are carrying an integrated Ethernet interface which allows programming through network.
For complex communication and control tasks there are - according to the CPU type - internal and external processors for Profibus, Interbus, CAN and Ethernet available.

Memory management and data saving

The memory can be even subse quently dynamically adjusted to the requirements of the application without exchanging existing hardware. Thereto a Memory Configuration Card (MCC) is simply plugged into the Card-Slot which releases additional memory. Thus the number of required CPU types the customer has to store reduces to one.

Programme saving is done in a three-phase concept from the internal battery-backed RAM through an internal flash saving to the MMC-Card which also serves for the exchange of programme and firmware. Programming can be done with WinPLC7 from Vipa or STEP®? from Siemens.

The CPU517S is a PLC equipped with the PLC7000 PLC-Chip from profichip GmbH offering up to eight MB working memoiy. As standard programming language STEP®7 is used. The CPU517S is run via the PCI-Bus in the PC. To guarantee an operation independent from the PC hardware, it is galvanically separated from the PC and equipped with an own power supply from DC 18V to DC36V
Depending on the application, the PLC performance is about four to eight times faster than the CPU416 from Siemens. Peripheral connection of the CPU517S is done by Profibus-DP. For decentral communication tasks additionally the MPI network with up to 12Mbit/s is available. For the Ethernet communication the CP343/NET-lnterface is on hand which allows up to 128 project configurated connections and 64 PG-channels with standard S7 communication.
With the OPC server included in delivery, a standard software interface for any OPC client is available for data exchange and visualization.
